Sadly, this area was prone to disasters and disease, But Zayed managed to fix these problems. And when the parties from the Petroleum Development Team came across hoping to find oil in the sea, Sheikh Zayed lend a helping hand.

In 1952, a tiny Saudi Arabian Force led by Turki bin Abdullah al-Otaishan occupied the small village of Hamasa in the Buraimi Oasis. Sheikh Zayed was determined to bring and unite the wonderful Emirates into something called a federation. His cries for collaboration extended across the Persian Gulf all the to a wonderful and amazing country we call Iran.

Final Years, and Death.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. In 1989, while he was hospitalized and undergoing a series of tests, the people of the UAE wrote him a personal thank-you letter. On 2 November 2004, Zayed died at the ripe old age of 86. He was buried in the courtyard of the new Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

It’s Not Over Till It’s Over.

No. His eldest son, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the current president of the UAE and the ruler of Abu Dhabi. The legendary and epic memory of Sheikh Zayed will be forever engraved in our hearts, and yours as well. Take a moment or two of silence to commemorate this man’s brave heart, spirit, and soul. We all love you, Sheikh Zayed.
